Thick Fog and Freezing Rain

Our weather this winter has been as changeable as the old New England saying:  "Don't like the weather?  Wait a minute."

For most of December, it was cold.  Colder, really, really cold.  And we had snow, of course, in several significant storms.  First, over a foot, then another foot, then later almost another foot.  There were some little snowfalls in between.   Lots of single-digit and below zero temperatures, and if you counted the wind chill factor, some downright frigid days and nights.

Today is supposed to reach 44 degrees.  We started off with freezing, thick fog and freezing rain.

In the last 15 minutes or so, the temperature has risen to 36 and it is raining.  Hard.  The snow isn't melting so much as compacting down into a hard, icy crust.  Later this afternoon, more cold air will arrive, and we will drop to the low teens, with a very rapid freeze-up.  Driving will be even more treacherous.

Temps won't climb above freezing until the very end of the week, when more snow arrives.  Lows will be in the single digits to low teens.

I really wish we would have a serious January thaw this year.  I could use a couple of snow-free, warm days for a change.

How about you?
