Art Every Day for January 2014 begins today. I will be posting a picture of something I have done -- a drawing, stitching, whatever -- on here each day. Sometimes, I may be working on something that is too big to complete in a single day, so you will also be seeing work-in-progress pictures. I will also be posting a link to my Flickr Page, where you can see not only what I have done, but what other challenge participants have submitted.
I hope you will have a great time following along with us. Perhaps you will be inspired to join us.
Here is my work for Jan 1. I have created a cover for a little journal where I store my dye recipes. This is just one of those inexpensive composition books with a black and white mottled cover and lined pages, like this one:
I coated it with black gesso, then added molding paste. Some of the molding paste was applied through stencils and other parts were just smeared on and rubber stamped. Then I coated the entire front cover with sepia acrylic ink. After it was totally dry, I dry-brushed the raised areas with a slightly lighter color to accent the texture. Here is the result:
